Riverfront Esplanade to Boost Tourism in San Carlos City, Pangasinan

One of the main attractions a city can offer its tourists is a space to lounge about, enjoy the sun, and do outdoor activities. As open parks became a go-to location due to the restrictions of the pandemic, people are more inclined to visit areas where they can feel at ease and basically, let their hair down.

River Esplanade For Tourism Boost

With this in mind, the City Government of San Carlos in Pangasinan started to develop an esplanade called “San Carlos City Esplanade Bocboc People’s Park” along the Agno River bank just beneath the Bocboc Bridge.

The city’s initiative will deliver a vibrant, innovative, and attractive esplanade which will be a welcoming view for tourists and locals.
According to the Department of Budget and Management, San Carlos City has allotted P17-M in the development of the 145,000sqm people’s park.

Tourism Boost In San Carlos, Pangasinan

The city expects a boost in tourism with its offer of well-designed walkways resembling the path of the Agno River which will provide a clearer view of the beautiful landscape enveloping the area.

City Information Officer Jhuliano Nazareno said that the area was previously used as a picnic site and with the city’s plan on renovating the area, it will become one of the city’s favored tourist destinations.

An Open Park In San Carlos, Pangasinan

Aside from the open spaces, other attractions and amenities will be added, like a viewing deck tower with a zipline that will traverse to the other side of the river, floating boardwalks, boating area, outdoor fitness space and a play area for kids, park benches, and wide lawn area perfect for outdoor events (community gatherings, bazaars, fests, and concerts).

With the first phase of development underway in 2021, locals and tourists will be able to celebrate the annual “Pistay Dayat” or Sea Festival in the Bocboc People’s Park in the coming years.

Having the largest population in its region, the esplanade’s location will approximately serve 25,000 residents within its vicinity, on top of the 5,500 commuters who pass by the area daily.

Ecohaven, the landscape design firm which signed up for the project, shares the same objective with the San Carlos City Government which is to enhance and revitalize the space to help in lifting San Carlos City’s cultural image and identity while providing a place for pleasure and play for its visitors.
